The Wine

Our Winemaker and Quivet partner, Mike Smith, has always had a passion for fine wine and decided to move to Napa Valley and pursue his career in winemaking.

He started as an Assistant Winemaker for Thomas Rivers Brown and helped produce the premium wines of Maybach Family, Outpost, Rivers-Marie, and his own label Myriad Cellars. Mike branched out on his own in 2006 and now makes wine for several premium wineries in Napa Valley. Quivet Cellars is custom crushed along side these great wines at the Tench Winery in Oakville, California.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Quivet Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Complete and pure with tremendous focus and presence, the Quivet Napa seems ridiculously dialed in for such a young wine. A perfumed nose of blueberry pie, red raspberries and cardamom greet you willingly. Dark red & black fruits, full & vibrant flavors of cherry pie and some spice box/licorice mix in. The seamless transition from beginning to end showcases the powerful, silky, complex finish you’d expect from wines twice the price. It has everything you could want from a rich Napa Cabernet and is obviously well ahead of its time. Drinking great now with a short decant, a perfect wine to open while waiting for the single vineyard cabs to come together.

Quivet Cellars Pellet Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Kitty-corner to our famed Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard, this vineyard nestled on the same alluvial soils and is the original homestead of Dr. Crane’s winemaker (and the first winemaker in Napa Valley) Henry Pellet. The vineyard has matured tremendously over the past 2 years, showing the textures, verve and anise undertones of its prestigious neighbors. Dark garnet to the rim with a slight purple hue, the clarity of this wine shows off its overall brightness, purity and depth. Scents of dark and red raspberries so strong you don't even have to put your nose to the glass. The mid palate is filled with spice box, herbs of Provence and mocha, setting the stage for rollercoaster of complexities and multi-level layers. A true cornucopia of cool-toned red/blue fruits, graphite and coffee undertones; this twenty-eighteen is balanced, on point, long and focused. Give this wine a year or two in bottle to bring together the subtle nuances and hidden layers.

Quivet Cellars Kenefick Ranch Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Year in and year out, our Kenefick Ranch Cabernet is bold, layered and embraces new world style Napa Valley Cabernet while retaining that ‘Mike Smith’ purity and freshness. Dark ruby in color, full in body and a nose of plum, big blue fruits, lavender and baking spices. Rich and concentrated yet still open and lively; the mid palate is bursting with blueberry pie, mocha, gravel, and cigar box, carrying hints of cocoa, vanilla bean and graham from barrel integration. Seamless, silky and polished, the finish makes this wine hard to put down, but then again, who wants too. Age 6-12 months to add a little weight, depth and density to this premium Napa Cabernet Sauvignon.

Quivet Cellars Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

What a wine! Already exhibiting superior sophistication, this wine is an outstanding showing from this remarkable vineyard. Inky in color, the black cherry liqueur really stands out in the nose. Opulent, rich, dense and full bodied, with an undeniable streak of black licorice and crushed gravel right down the middle. The mid palate is alive with multiple layers of gorgeously pure and silky black/purple fruit, black raspberry with slight floral hints the tail end. All this is framed beautifully by fine grained graphite minerals and scorched-earth tannins. The final lift is hypnotizing, ceaseless and ever-present, I’m still tasting the finish on this wine. Extraordinary Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

Quivet Cellars Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon

Our newest wine In the portfolio - The Quivet Cellars Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon is loaded with red fruit, bing cherry liquor and an unmistakable up-valley grip that is terroir driven. The deep shale benchland soils derived from hundreds of years of natural erosion make this site sing of classic Napa Valley Cabernet with powerful punch. Explosive and layered mid palate, followed by a long and wanting finish. Fantastically balanced! Lay this beauty down for a few years for all the components to come together, what a beauty.

Quivet Cellars Shiverick Reserve Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard

A new addition to the Quivet line up, a reserve barrel selection from the remarkable Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard. The Quivet Shiverick Reserve is a micro cuvee' of a newly planted section of this vineyard that put forth a wine of stellar density and bolder flavor profile.  Only 2 barrels exist and what a wine!

Already exhibiting superior sophistication, this is an outstanding showing from this remarkable vineyard. Inky in color, the black cherry liqueur really stands out in the nose. Syrah

Quivet Cellars Las Madres Syrah Hulda Block

This wine immediately sings of dark fruit, signature olive tapenade and apple bacon while providing an immediate lift out the gate. Interlocking notes of white pepper and soy subtly mingle while cool-toned red/blue fruits take center stage. The mid palate is focused but has a nice core of gaminess with light notes of iron that showcase its cool climate location. Fine grained tannins layer each sip, weaving this wine all together. The finish carries long woven with strong pepper and nutmeg spice notes. Hard to put down except to re-pour! Drinking nicely in 1-5 years

Quivet Cellars Kenefick Ranch 100 % Whole Cluster Syrah

Fresh, spicy with a dash of pepper, the Quivet Kenefick Ranch Whole Cluster Syrah offers gorgeous blackberry, cured meats and Asian spices upfront. While the warmer Calistoga temperatures showcase depth, richness and concentrated Syrah fruit, a nice mid palate lift from the foot treading & stem inclusion is noted throughout. Highly expressive notes of forest floor, orange zest and coffee intermingle with nicely polished tannins for a silky mouthfeel. While gorgeous now, this wine will benefit from 1-2 years of bottle age to bring out all the hidden nuances you know are there.

Quivet Cellars Kenefick Ranch Vineyard Syrah

Just a luscious crowd pleasing Syrah. Deep purple color and boysenberry explode across the entire entry. Blue fruits galore in all spectrums. The nose is graham with slight berry pie and slight white pepper. The plush mid palate is punctuated with hints if tobacco, coffee notes with an aromatic floral lift. Round with deep, yet has plenty of cut and energy. Nicely finishes with a layered lavender, red currants and a staying power that goes on and on. Give this wine 6 months to come together - Drinking nicely now thru 2025.

Sauvignon Blanc

Quivet Cellars McGah Family Sauvignon Blanc

Glistening straw and steely lemon hues greet the eye while juicy stone fruit, white flowers, clementine jump from the glass. Primarily pineapple and grapefruit on the palate, these juxtapose with very expressive nose of beeswax, apricot and melon. Its rich and oily mineral mouthfeel is followed by tangy acidity with herbal and light crushed gravel elements. The finish is crisp, slightly tart, and has that signature ‘tastes like Mike Smith’ with medium+ length. A perfect Summer wine.
